Nexters to watch in 2013
2012 has been an incredible year for Nexters with many organisations being funded and awarded, there was even the first Global Sharing Day.
Here is some news from our tech social entrepreneurs.
Livity’s somewhereto_ project has been given a £7 million injection from the Big Lottery Fund, supporting the expansion of somewhereto_ over 2013 and the years following. The funding will allow them to continue offering free and underused spaces to young people for their passions and offer the support required to convert their experience to employment, training or further education.
400% increase in sales, with half of profits going to charity
Fairsharemusic.com offers over 20 million tracks, for customers to purchase, once purchased half of the profits go to charity. In 2011 Fairsharemusic.com won a Guardian Digital Innovation Award and since then has continued to build a loyal base of brand advocates. In 2012 there has been a 400% increase in sales and customers numbers.
Transforming the high street with the BBC’s The Apprentice
Spacehive are proud to introduce some fresh new projects in January including an idea from Gabrielle Omar from BBC’s The Apprentice who wants to transform a shop in High Wycombe into a hub for young entrepreneurs. Spacehive have welcomed new partners who will be working with them to transform civic spaces in 2013.
Using gaming to change the way we donate in 2013
Playmob spent much of 2012 creating a developer portal to enable a game developer to set up a campaign in less than 2 hours. Donating to charity has never been so easy, charities such as SOS Children’s Village are raising money through gaming. Playmob has been entered in to Europe’s most prestigious tech award, The Europas they will find out if they have won in the next month.
£2000 Scholarship Den
Express Training Courses have launched a bursary award for 2013 giving the chance for people to pitch to 8 judges live. If 4 out of 5 judges say yes, then they are instantly awarded a full training portfolio worth £2000. Along side this Express Training Course have a number of workshops they will be running last year they partnered with Regus for a bootcamp workshop.
An app reporting personal theft made easy
In response to the ever growing increase of mobile phone theft, Facewatch have announced they will be releasing a free Personal Theft Reporting app. The App will provide an instant insurance crime reference and the option to cancel all payment cards free of charge with one call. The App will enable a victim of phone theft to use a friend or 3rd parties phone to report the crime.
